In Animal Nutrition research we have four major focus areas for innovation:

  • Services and models for quantitative nutritions
  • Optimised feed value and predictable performance

  • Feed additives for production efficiency
  • Reducing emissions

  • Supporting intestinal health
  • Nutritional solutions for transations goods.

  • Young animal feed
  • Young animal vitality and later life performance

Precision feeding

NutriOpt: nutrition by the numbers

NutriOpt is one of the examples of applications solutions. NutriOpt combines 50+ years of expertise and innovation from Nutreco in the areas of feed efficiency and application solutions. The nutritional tool integrates knowledge across these fields in such a way that enables customers to optimize both feed costs and production results to maximize financial benefits in their value chain.  It consists of a number of key elements that complement and support each other in optimizing animal nutrition, performance, and associated costs through precise real‐time analysis, modelling and calculation.

Trouw AO-mix - natural, specially formulated anti-oxidant blends

Anti-oxidants are crucial to livestock's health. They provide the total protection which ruminants and monogastrics need to optimise fertility, offspring vitality, and immune system support.

Trouw AO-mixes can easily and effectively be used to replace other anti-oxidants, such as vitamin E, by up to 50% in feeds. What's more, the mixes have been carefully compounded to ensure that all the anti-oxidants in the feed are even better digested, and their positive effects are more widely distributed throughout the animal's system.

Mycomaster and TOXO: strong strategy against mycotoxins

Mycotoxins produced by moulds are a growing problem in animal feed production worldwide. Analysing mycotoxins is an essential step in understanding and controlling mycotoxin risks in raw materials and feed.

By using the Trouw Nutrition Mycotoxin Management Programme, you can combine mycotoxin analysis with a feed additive solution customised to your needs. The Mycomaster rapid analysis reader gives you a reliable indication of the mycotoxin contamination. Together with the advised dosage of the TOXO feed additive, this programme helps to reduce the levels of mycotoxin in feed and raw materials. The TOXO range offers a total solution against a broad spectrum of mycotoxins; Aflatoxin, Zearalenone, Deoxynivalenol, Fumonisin, Ochratoxin and T-2/HT2. The multiple strategies combined in TOXO contribute to a normal animal health status during exposure to mycotoxins.

Life Start

Lifestart Sets Life Performance

We continue to help producers invest in future performance through optimised nutrition of young calves in the early stages of their life, which has a significant impact on future productivity. Trouw Nutrition communicates this through the concept 'Life Start sets Life Performance.' Providing young animals with significantly higher levels of milk replacer than in conventional diets leads to healthier animals and faster growth.

Healthy start, better lifetime growth

In the last 10 years the average number of piglets per sow has increased with 25% in Western Europe, resulting in lighter and less homogeneous piglets.

The largest influence on piglets' growth, health and uniformity, is the intake of milk and feed in their first 42 days. Milkiwean stimulates a fast and high feed intake, giving the piglets an excellent start. See for more information

Reduced dependence on fishmeal

MicroBalance is a technology that makes it possible for aquaculture to grow without increasing the pressure on the world's fisheries. MicroBalance makes it possible to replace fishmeal with other ingredients without this having a negative impact on performance, growth, feed conversion ratio, health or fish quality.

Since the introduction of MicroBalance™ in 2010, Skretting, a Nutreco company, has reduced its use of fishmeal in salmon feed by around 100,000 tonnes, while increasing total production. With this new technology, salmonid grower feed in Norway now has 10 per cent fishmeal as a standard, and we will eventually have the knowledge to reduce this even further. The concept has also reduced dependence on fishmeal in feeds for other species and its application is being extended through our R&D. MicroBalance is possible because in our R&D work, we advanced from a macro to a micro way of thinking – ingredients are not simply "ingredients", they are carriers of nutritional qualities. The qualities that make an ingredient good or bad are at microscopic component level. And when you know what components are actually involved, you can usually find them in many sources. You no longer depend on a certain "ingredient" and have the freedom to find profitability, quality and sustainability in other sources instead of just one.

Optiline: More fish with less feed

Metabolic activators are natural substances present in specific raw materials. When combined correctly, these substances positively impact the fish's physiology. More fat is stored in the edible parts of the fish rather than in those parts removed in the gutting process after slaughter.

Optiline Premium is the first feed to contain metabolic activators that stimulate the fish's metabolism and energy utilisation. The metabolic activators help reduce visceral fat and increase fillet fat content. The improved distribution of fat provides higher slaughter yields, with larger fillets and higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids.
